For composers

Sell your choral sheet music where choirs are already using it.

Chorilo is the app choirs use to rehearse, manage sheet music and prepare concerts. With the Chorilo Sheet Music Shop you bring your works straight into the digital folder of their singers: fair, simple, and without complicated contracts.

We believe: whoever writes or publishes music should actually earn from every licence. That is why we only keep a very small margin and take care of the technology, legal certainty and payouts in the background.

The model

The model in one sentence

Here is what that means: when a choir buys a licence, we first deduct the VAT included in the sale price and the fee that our payment processor Stripe actually charges for that specific payment. For card payments this is 1.5 % to 3.15 % plus €0.25, depending on the card; other payment methods such as Klarna have their own rates. From the amount that remains, 95 % goes to you as composer or publisher, and 5 % stays with Chorilo to fund servers, licence infrastructure, support and ongoing development. No hidden setup fees, no listing costs, no minimum turnover.

You set the licence price yourself. You keep full control over your work and can update or withdraw pieces at any time.

95 % for you. 5 % for Chorilo. Calculated after deducting payment processor costs.

Payout

Payout: on time, automatic, no chasing

Every month we add up your sold licences and transfer the amount automatically on the 15th of the following month to the account you have provided. Sell in April, receive the money on 15 May. A detailed statement with all sold licences, buying choirs and payment processor fees is always available in your publisher dashboard, including for past months.

You do not need to issue an invoice. For every payout Chorilo automatically generates a self-billed invoice in your name with all legally required details (VAT ID, period, line items). It is provided as a PDF in your publisher dashboard, and you can hand it straight to your accountant. No reminders, no templates, no chasing receipts.
Protecting your works

Why Chorilo is particularly safe for your works

Selling sheet music online has a bad reputation, and for good reason: many platforms hand out a PDF and hope for the best. Chorilo takes a different route.

Every licence is uniquely identifiable

Every sold licence receives a unique key (e.g. CHL-2026-A7K9-M3P5-X8Q2) that is visibly embedded in the delivered PDF. It shows which choir bought the piece, when, and in what quantity.

Public licence verification

Anyone (GEMA, organisers, publishers, curious third parties) can check a licence key on chorilo.com/verify-license and immediately see whether it is valid, which work it belongs to, and which choir owns it. This discourages illegal sharing and creates trust.

Integrated into choir daily life

Purchased sheet music is usable directly inside the Chorilo app: in rehearsal, on stage, with annotations, offline on every singer's device. Singers who prefer paper can print the sheet music: the licence key and buyer details stay visibly embedded in the printout, so the printed copy is just as traceable and secure as the digital one. There is no incentive to copy outside the app because the app itself is the easier path.

We host in the EU

All sales and licence keys live on servers in Germany, at German companies with no US parent, operated under GDPR. Only the payment itself is handled by Stripe.

Why choirs buy

Good for choirs, and therefore for you

Choirs have a real problem: they want to work legally, but original sheet music is expensive, minimum order quantities push the price further, and licence management is tedious. Keeping lists, fearing audits: many choir directors eventually give in and copy, even though they know it is not allowed. Chorilo removes that barrier completely: one click, instant access, automatic licence proof. As a result, something important happens for you:

  1. 1

Choirs that would otherwise have bought nothing now buy.

People who used to copy now buy, because buying is simpler and cheaper than copying.

  2. 2

Licences instead of expensive minimum orders.

Traditional sheet music editions often require a minimum order of 20 copies, even if the choir only has 12 members. Through Chorilo the choir buys exactly the number of licences it really needs, and saves money that it can invest in further pieces from your catalogue instead. If you would like to keep minimum quantities, you can configure them per work in Chorilo.

  3. 3

    Choirs come back.

Whoever bought through Chorilo once will most likely buy the next piece here too, because everything lives in the same app.

Pricing

How lower licence prices can earn you more

Sounds counter-intuitive at first, but it is reality: lower prices per licence often lead to higher total earnings through Chorilo. Three reasons:

1

Volume over margin.

Traditional sheet music editions often force a choir to buy 20 copies as the minimum order, even if only 12 members will sing the piece. Through Chorilo it buys exactly 12 licences. When a new member joins, the choir buys a single additional licence, and we automatically remind it as soon as assigned licences run out. You gain sales that simply never happened in the old world. (If you still want to require a minimum quantity per work, you can set that per piece.)

2

More pieces per concert.

A more affordable per-piece price means: the choir dares to programme more works, mixes different composers in one programme, and tries the B-sides of your catalogue. Licences once bought stay with the choir: when a singer leaves, the licence is simply passed to the next new member. That meaningfully lowers the perceived hurdle of buying.

3

Recommendation effect.

Pieces with a fair price are seen more often in the Chorilo shop, clicked more often, and recommended more often. The one concert that another choir attends and asks afterwards "What was that beautiful song?" closes much more often with the €3 piece than with the €5 one.

You still keep full pricing sovereignty: if a demanding work has its price, then it has it. We give recommendations but never decide for you.
What you get

What we offer you concretely

  • Publisher dashboard

Sales statistics, licence overview, payout history, top pieces and usage analytics.

  • Unlimited work upload

Upload as many works as you like, at no extra cost: same pricing model as above.

  • Multilingual work descriptions

Available in eight languages, also automatically translatable.

  • Preview function for choirs

First page or a configurable excerpt.

  • Optional minimum order quantities

Configurable per work if you want to keep them.

  • Choir licence instead of per-singer licences

You can also offer works as a single choir-wide licence: one purchase covers the entire choir, regardless of the number of singers.

  • Team function

Several team members can manage the publisher account together.

  • Split licences across multiple contributors

For pieces with multiple creators (e.g. composer and lyricist, or arrangement collaborations), you set the share once, for example 50/50, 70/20/10 or any other split. Chorilo then splits every payout by that key automatically, sparing you the manual reconciliation, the disputes and the spreadsheets that usually come with split royalties.

  • Automatic re-purchase reminder

When a choir's licences are used up (e.g. because new singers have joined), the choir director automatically receives a notice with a direct buy link, so you do not lose sales because someone forgot to reorder.

  • Automatic self-billed invoice

For every payout, no need to issue your own invoice.

  • Free catalogue import

Already have lots of works? We handle the import for free, whether from Excel or from your existing list of works.

  • Direct support

In German and English with short response times.

Who want to bundle and jointly offer their members' works.

How to start

The Chorilo Sheet Music Shop grows in a controlled way. We onboard new composers and publishers individually, clarify the licence terms together and set up your publisher account personally. Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

When do I get my money?
Automatically on the 15th of the following month. You do not have to issue an invoice: we generate the self-billed invoice for you and provide it in your publisher dashboard.
What does onboarding cost?
Nothing. Signing up doesn't cost a cent: no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no charge for listing your works. We only earn once you do.
How high are the payment processor costs?
We deduct exactly the fee Stripe charges for each payment, with no mark-up. For card payments this is 1.5 % to 3.15 % plus €0.25, depending on the card; other payment methods such as Klarna have their own rates. The fee for every payment is shown in your statement. It is deducted before the 95/5 split, so both sides share it proportionally.
Can I remove pieces again?
Yes, at any time. Already sold licences remain valid for the purchasing choirs: that is part of the legal certainty we promise.
Do I need to own the rights to the works?
Yes. You must own the exploitation rights to the works you sell through Chorilo, either as the composer yourself, as a publisher, or through a corresponding chain of licences from the rights holders. For arrangements, adaptations or translations you additionally need the consent of the original authors or their publisher. Before your account is activated we clarify the rights situation together so there are no conflicts later.
What happens to the rights?
You keep all copyrights. Chorilo only receives permission to technically handle the licences. We clarify contract details with you before going live.
Are there minimum sales numbers?
No. Even if your work is bought only once a year, you receive your share.
How does splitting between multiple contributors work?
You configure the distribution key once per work (e.g. 50/50 for composer + lyricist, or 70/20/10 for arrangement collaborations). Chorilo splits every sale automatically and pays each contributor their share separately.
Can I also sell sheet music for the entire choir?
Yes. You can offer works either per-singer (licence based) or per-choir (a single licence for the entire choir, regardless of how many members it has). You decide per work which model fits better.

A short email is enough. We look forward to your works.
