Listen to your play (voice trainer)
The voice trainer reads your play aloud with a distinct voice per role. Pick an act and roles and learn your lines comfortably by listening.
What is it?
The voice trainer for plays reads your play aloud with distinct voices: every role gets a fixed voice, and stage directions are read by a separate narrator voice. You pick an act and roles and learn your lines comfortably by listening — on the go, while commuting, or at home on the sofa.
The feature appears automatically for pieces of theatre groups. For musical productions there is also the sheet music voice trainer, which creates practice audio for every singing voice.
How to use the voice trainer
- Open the piece and scroll on the detail page to the Voice trainer area. In the app, tap Trainer in the dock of the open piece (on iPad Voice trainer).
- Import the play: the first time, start with Import play. Acts, roles and stage directions are detected automatically.
- Generate an act: pick an act and start Generate act. This takes a few minutes — finished acts are marked with a green dot.
- Listen: choose act and roles, start playback and read along. The current line is highlighted; tap any line to jump straight to it.
What you find in the voice trainer
- Act selection — every act is generated and played individually
- Role selection — deselected roles are skipped during playback
- Stage directions toggle — switch the narrator voice on or off
- Read-along view — the text scrolls along, every line can be played individually
- Previous/Next — step through the scene line by line
- Correct speaker — if the AI assigned a line to the wrong role, the leadership can fix that via the pencil icon next to the line (in the browser)
Rehearsing with a prompter (app)
In rehearsal mode the app becomes your scene partner. You find it in the app under Rehearse at the top of the voice trainer.
- Tap Rehearse at the top and pick your role under My role (several, if you play more than one).
- The first time, the app downloads speech recognition once (about 55 MB).
- Start the rehearsal. The other roles are read aloud; at your line the app waits and listens. Recognized words turn green.
- If you say nothing or get stuck, the prompter whispers the next words. The prompter button gives you help right away.
- If you're way off, the app reads your line to you once. Then you say it again or it moves on, depending on your settings.
- Hide my lines: your lines stay hidden until your turn; the word lengths remain visible as a memory aid.
- Rehearsal settings (icon at the top right): strictness (Relaxed, Normal, Strict), what happens after your line is read to you, how long the app waits during silence, and how many words the prompter whispers.
- A different word order counts as correct with Relaxed and Normal. With Strict, word order counts too.
- Rehearsing is available for German plays for now. The act needs to have audio.
Tips
- Rehearse with a prompter: in rehearsal mode the app listens during your lines and helps when you get stuck. Without the app: deselect your role and speak your lines yourself whenever your cue comes up.
- Only your scenes: select only the roles you share the stage with to practise in a focused way.
- Generate only what is being rehearsed — every act is generated individually, which keeps processing lean.
